An educational rattle

maple baby rattle

It seems an innocent rattle, turned from a scrap of wood, but it was created under the gazing stare of a group of turners focussing on the Fundamentals of woodturning. Part of the monthly cycle of Greater Vancouver Woodturners Guild demonstrations, Nanotray was asked to pull up the small lathe and talk around lathe safety, tool  use, and little tricks to make creating wooden gifts easier. Page 8 of the February 2014 issue of the club newsletter contains a nice article and photographs of the demonstration, and in the meantime those rattles have made their way to various newborns, keeping them entertained and soothed.
